About this work
One of a series of six. Father (Pater) seated at a table under a canopy, son (Filius Prodigus) opposite him with a money bag. In the background the son's departure, accompanied by Conscience (Conscientia). Print from a series of six woodcuts depicting the History of the Prodigal Son with six-line Latin inscriptions in book type. The woodcut is hand-colored, with the costumes of the depicted persons adapted/ modernized.
