About this work

A child tames a lion and a bird of prey. They sit atop a shield with a Latin verse. The shield is ornamented with scrollwork, two cherubs, and dolphins. According to the verse, this child demonstrates through taming the animals that man has been given dominion over the animal kingdom by God.
