About this work

Hermes, recognizable by his winged sandals and petasus (hat), holding a wreath of flowers. The entire composition is framed by a border with, on the left and right, a so-called caduceus, a staff entwined by two snakes, and the city arms of Delft and Bordeaux. At the top the text: 'The board of the Dutch Limited Liability Company French-Dutch Oil Factories Calvé-Delft has awarded the medal for ... years of faithful service to ...'.
