About this work

On a monument, alongside allegorical figures representing Faith and Religion, stands an inscription commemorating Jean Thomas Griot, preacher of the Walloon Church in Amsterdam. Above it is his portrait in an oval crowned with a skull. Father Time holds a sheet of paper with his date of death. In front of the monument lie a broken torch and an hourglass, and a still-burning lamp stands. Two putti sit on the ground with a book.
