About this work

Pieter Lodewijk Tak 'goes to Canossa'. As a penitent with a torch labeled 'Amendments', he kneels barefoot at the feet of the Pope, Minister of Justice Eduard Ellis van Raalte, and his cardinals Jan Loeff and Hendrik Drucker. SDAP Chamber members Jan Schaper and Pieter Jelles Troelstra look on.
