About this work

The Dutch Maiden and Minister of the Interior Sam van Houten at photographer Mr. Heemskerk, who is taking a photo of a wild group of celebrants observing Hartjesdag (the third Monday in August). With much drinking and men in women's clothes and vice versa. Mr. Jan Heemskerk Azn. pleaded at an international congress in Basel for the Dutch government's policy on alcohol control.
