Minister of Justice Hendrik Jan Smidt shows Minister of the Interior Johannes Tak van Poortvliet a drawing of a child. Following the by-election in the district of Veendam, where Eerke Albert Smidt, the minister's son, defeated Willem Treub by one vote.
