About this work

View of the front of the Diaconieweeshuis (Deacon's Orphanage) on Vlooienburg in Amsterdam, taken from the Zwanenburgerstraat, which opened in 1657. Various figures on the street, including playing orphans. This orphanage was located at the corner of the Binnen-Amstel and the Zwanenburgerstraat. Intended for orphans of the Dutch Reformed (later Reformed) faith whose parents were not citizens.
