About this work

View of the rear of the Diaconieweeshuis (Deacon's Orphanage) on Vlooienburg in Amsterdam, taken from the Binnen-Amstel, which opened in 1657. This orphanage was located at the corner of the Binnen-Amstel and the Zwanenburgerstraat. Intended for orphans of the Dutch Reformed (later Reformed) faith whose parents were not citizens.
