About this work

The conquest of Nijmegen after a siege of eight days by the French army under Turenne on 8 July 1672. The print is part of a French series of 28 prints depicting the conquests of the French king Louis XIV between 1672 and 1678, titled: Grandes Conquêtes du Roi. In an ornamental frame with a map of the city's fortifications at the top, further trophies of weapons and parts of armor. At the bottom a cartouche with an inscription of four lines in French.
