About this work
In the foreground sits a water god with a cornucopia and a water jug. Next to him lie Romulus and Remus and the she-wolf as a symbol for the city of Rome. In the background a number of Hesperides, who bring (orange) apples. Apollo above. This print is an illustration for the introduction of G.B. Ferrari's book on citrus fruits. Using invented mythological stories, the author attempts to explain the origin of the different lemon varieties.
