About this work

Neptune stands on his chariot, drawn by two hippocampi. Tritons and mermaids swim around the chariot. In the upper left Fame floats. In the foreground stands a woman with feathered headdress and bow and arrow - possibly a personification of America - who offers Neptune a bowl.
