About this work

Before a round temple, Ecclesia, the personification of the Christian Church, bestows symbols of authority upon spiritual and secular rulers. Two angels protect the church from attacks by devils and Islam. A devil breaks the globe. The text accompanying this illustration in the book urges the reader to have compassion for the Church and to protect it with piety.
