About this work
A statue of Vulcan the god of fire placed in a niche. Vulcan holds a hammer and tongs in his hands. Next to him stands an anvil. In front of the anvil sits a rat. Vulcan is the counterpart of the goddess Minerva in this series. Both are protectors of craftsmen. Under the image a Latin verse.
