About this work
Christ is tested by disciples of the Pharisees and a number of Herodians, but he sees through their evil intent. They show Christ a denarius with the images and inscription of the emperor. To this Christ answers: "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's." Letters stand next to various elements in the scene corresponding to the legend in the margin.
