About this work
Saint Lawrence lies on a gridiron and is being roasted. Soldiers fetch wood for the fire, stoke the fire and pierce Lawrence's side with a spit. In the background a statue of Mary with an angel in her hand. Two angels look from heaven down at the torture of Lawrence and bring him the palm branch, the sign of the martyr, in advance.
