About this work

Gad, the seventh son of Jacob. He sits naked on armor and holds an axe and a sword in his hands. Next to him sits a leopard. To the left of Gad the statue of Mars, the Roman god of war. In the background people fight on a battlefield. All attributes refer to Jacob's blessing of Gad in Genesis 49. The print is part of a series on the twelve sons of Jacob and patriarchs of Israel and has a Dutch and Latin inscription.
