About this work

Issachar, the ninth son of Jacob, dressed as a farmer. Next to him lies a donkey. In the background the statue of Atlas, who carries the world on his back. All attributes refer to Jacob's blessing of Issachar in Genesis 49. The print is part of a series on the twelve sons of Jacob and patriarchs of Israel and has a Dutch and Latin inscription.
