About this work
Asher, the eighth son of Jacob. He is naked and milks a goat. Next to him lies the cornucopia as a symbol of abundance. To the right of Asher stands a statue of the Roman Goddess Ceres. In the background sowing and plowing farmers. All attributes refer to Jacob's blessing of Asher in Genesis 49. The print is part of a series on the twelve sons of Jacob and patriarchs of Israel and has a Dutch and Latin inscription.
