About this work

Dan, the fifth son of Jacob. He sits on a throne and holds the staff of judges in his hand. Next to him a horse being bitten by a snake. In the background the statue of Paris, a golden apple in his hand. All attributes refer to Jacob's blessing of Dan in Genesis 49. The print is part of a series on the twelve sons of Jacob and patriarchs of Israel and has a Dutch and Latin inscription.
