Portrait of Admiral Maarten Harpertszoon Tromp at the age of 55. The admiral wears a laurel wreath on his head. Bust in oval frame flanked by two angels blowing trumpets and flags and smoking cannons. Below the portrait a scene from the three-day naval battle off Portland in 1652 with cannon fire back and forth. In the margin below a Dutch verse in eight lines in which Tromp's heroic deeds are praised. An explanatory list indicates the opposing parties, this is printed with a second plate.
