Portrait of Admiral Maarten Harpertszoon Tromp at the age of 55. The admiral wears a laurel wreath on his head. Bust in oval frame flanked by two angels blowing trumpets and flags and smoking cannons. Below the portrait the naval battle off Terheide on 10 August 1653 with cannon fire back and forth in which Admiral Tromp lost his life. In the margin below a Dutch verse in eight lines in which Tromp's heroic deeds are praised. An explanatory list indicates the opposing parties.
