About this work

Apollo chases the fleeing Daphne. Apollo was struck by Cupid's golden arrow, which kindles love, and Daphne by Cupid's leaden arrow, which repels love. In the background on the left the river god Peneus, father of Daphne. On the right Apollo and Daphne during her metamorphosis into a laurel tree. Italian text in two columns in the lower margin.
