Tantalus

In the background to the right a depiction of Tantalus' punishment for insulting the gods: he lived by a water pool that withdrew whenever he wanted to drink, and by a fruit tree he could not reach when he was hungry. Around the image a Latin border inscription. This print is part of a series of four falling men: Tantalus, Icarus, Phaëthon and Ixion.
