About this work

Charles V grants clemency to the Duke of Saxony in 1546. This likely refers to John Frederick the Magnanimous, Elector of Saxony, defeated and granted clemency after the Battle of Mühlberg, 24 April 1547. The Duke bows his head before Emperor Charles V. With a four-line Latin inscription. This print is part of a series of eight prints, each depicting a triumph of Charles V.
