Portrait of the printer/publisher and mayor of Haarlem Jan van Suren (1517-1591). Van Suren is here 71 years old. Depicted half-length behind a table, seen more or less from the right side, looking at the viewer. In his hands a small book. He is dressed in a cloak trimmed with fur. In the upper right his coat of arms. Four lines of Latin caption.
