About this work
Portrait of Josina Hamels (ca. 1560–1630), wife of Jacques de la Faille. Half-length, standing behind a table with a book and a skull. Her left hand rests on the skull, holding a fringed handkerchief in her right hand. In an oval with a border inscription. The oval itself is within an ornamental frame featuring two ladies at the top, one with a music book and one with a lute. Two peacocks at the bottom. Pendant to the portrait of her husband Jacques de la Faille.
