About this work

A boy sits on a wild horse; to the right lies the personification of Deceit—a woman with a mask—lying in wait. Behind the horse, a bearded man with a crown is being burned in a pit. The boy chooses the right path and rides towards a meadow where figures play and, to the right, the Fountain of Youth stands. Below the representation is a text in Latin, numbered in the left margin: 3. The print is part of a series of allegorical prints on the life of man.
