About this work

Next to the meeting tent, delegates from seven different tribes of Israel gather with Joshua and the priest Eleazar. Two men show a map of the Promised Land and a blindfolded man draws lots from a vase to assign the territories to the tribes. Joshua watches, with a scepter in his hand. Eleazar distributes the lots to the delegates. At the bottom of the margin is a reference to the biblical text and the title in Hebrew, English, German, Latin, French and Dutch.
