About this work

Announcement of the promotion of Claudius von Collalto and the defense of his thesis at the University of Leuven. In the foreground, Justice and Faith, accompanied by putti with tablets bearing the positions to be defended in Latin. In the center stands a young man with the design of the promotion print. A wealthy gentleman on a hill to the left observes the scene; putti offer him gifts. Behind him, putti minting coins, drawing, and fighting with a sword. In the background, a temple with statues of the Archdukes of Austria, also Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire. In the sky, angels fly, carrying an ornament with an inscription to Ferdinand III, Archduke of Austria and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, in Latin. On the left in the foreground, two putti at the coat of arms of Claudius von Collalto. On the bottom right, on an ornament, the announcement of the promotion at the University of Leuven, with Professor Jacob van Santvoort as promoter.
