About this work

Citizen's wife from Cologne, standing to the right, wrapped in a hood with small, flat, round hat provided with raised staff with plume and a spacious, finely pleated cape. Large, thick pleated collar. Hip-length jacket trimmed with fur in which a long, projecting breast with closure in the middle front. Ankle-length skirt decorated above the hem with horizontal bands. Gathered, long white apron that is worn over the jacket but under the projecting part of the breast. Open shoes with low heel. On the left arm a braided basket with lid and handle (for the market?).
