About this work

Merchant woman from London, to the left, wearing a dark hat with a wide brim on the head and a high-closed shawl, trimmed with lace, around the shoulders. With the left hand she holds her overskirt up, so that the light underskirt and her shoe with heel, decorated with a rosette, are visible.
