The Greek philosopher Diogenes in broad daylight, with a lamp in his hand, searching for the honest man (whom he will not find). From Diogenes Laertius' Lives and Opinions of Eminent Philosophers, vi. 41. On his path he finds some animals, a skull and antique fragments.
