About this work
Left: a scene based on the poem 'Die Entführung, oder Ritter Karl von Eichenhorst und Fräulein Gertrude von Hochburg'. The father of Gertrud von Hochburg wants her to marry squire Plump von Pommerland, but she is abducted by knight Karl von Eichenhorst, whom she is in love with. During a duel Karl von Eichenhorst defeats the squire and the father finally consents to the marriage. Right: a scene based on the poem 'Die Weiber von Weinsberg'. It concerns an adaptation of a well-known story where the women of Weinsberg carry their husbands out of the city on their backs after the conquest of their city in 1140 by Conrad III.
