About this work

Awakening love, burgeoning greenery. The focus here is on the goddess Venus and her paramour, the mortal hunter Adonis. Crispijn van de Passe drew a comparison between the love that buds when Amor shoots his arrows and the annual rebirth of nature in springtime. The customary motifs in scenes of spring – vases and flower gardens – are also present.
