About this work
Ceres wanders the earth searching for her daughter Proserpina, who was abducted by Pluto to the underworld. An old woman gives Ceres a drink in her hut. Her son (Ascalabus) mockingly points at Ceres and calls her greedy, whereupon she turns him into a lizard. In the margin, a four-line inscription, in two columns, in Latin.
