Interior with the Countess dying in a chair

At the feet of the countess lies a newspaper article stating that Silvertongue was hanged for murdering her husband. Her young child is lifted by an old woman to give her a last kiss. The child has syphilis, visible in the dark spot on her face and the splint on her leg. The countess's father removes her wedding ring. An apothecary grabs a servant by his collar and points to a bottle of laudanum with which the countess committed suicide. To the right, a doctor leaves the room. To the left, a lean dog eats a pig's head from a plate on the table and a chair lies overturned.
