About this work
The evangelist Matthew sits on a wooden bench in front of a drapery. Under his arm he holds a book and with his right hand he turns the pages of the book lying on a lectern in front of him. Behind him, a figure resembling an angel whispers something to him. To the right in the distance, several figures walk along a mountain path. Below the scene is a two-line Latin text.
