About this work
Four galleys (of Cosimo II de' Medici), coming from the left, fire on a Turkish ship, a bertone, which sails to the right and returns fire. In the background a Turkish ship, a patache. Below the scene an explanatory inscription in Italian. This print is part of a series of four prints depicting the course of the naval battle between galleys of Cosimo II de' Medici and Turkish ships on 23 November 1617 in the vicinity of Corsica, and which served as illustrations for a news report.
