About this work

In the foreground two galleys (of Cosimo II de' Medici) are engaged in a firefight with a Turkish ship, a bertone. In the background two other galleys (of Cosimo II de' Medici) are sailing, with a second Turkish ship, a petache, in their wake. Below the image an explanatory inscription in Italian. This print is part of a series of four prints depicting the course of the naval battle between galleys of Cosimo II de' Medici and Turkish ships on 23 November 1617 near Corsica, and which served as illustrations for a news report.
