About this work

Sheet with four oval scenes, each with inscription and date in Latin: top left Saint Patricia of Naples as a pilgrim in the company of two others, top right Saint Secundus and Saint Alexander of Bergamo as soldiers before a leader or king, whose table one of them kicks over, bottom left Saint Caesarius of Arles opposite a group of men, bottom right Saint Augustine standing on a beach with a flaming heart in his hand next to a small boy. This print is part of a series of prints depicting the saints and the Christian feast days of the year. Four scenes from one plate are printed on each sheet. Including the corresponding title page and frontispiece, the series comprises 124 plates (490 depictions). The three plates with the last 12 scenes (the moveable Christian feast days) were cut down in the third state to 12 small prints and issued with a separate title page.
