About this work

View of the Piazza Santa Croce in Florence, where soldiers perform a mock fight for spectators, who sit on oval-shaped tribunes. This fight took place during the carnival festivities 'Guerra d'Amore', which Cosimo II de' Medici gave in Florence in 1616. Below the image two lines of Italian text.
