About this work

A standing man with a spear and spurs around his feet and a woman with a jug and cup. They represent original inhabitants of America. Possibly a depiction of members of the Pennacook from North America. Surrounded by a border of floral scrolls. Below the scene a two-line verse: 'An Indian Man and Woman / called the Penekaas / The fellow has 2 spurs on / as if he had been riding'.
