About this work

Sheet with 24 scenes from the story of Carolien and chimney sweep Jan. Two rejected suitors of the proud Carolien send her a chimney sweep whom they have dressed richly and provided with plenty of money. Carolien falls in love and marries the supposed nobleman, who the day after the wedding reveals what he really is. Chrysenia accepts her fate and dresses her husband according to her rank. Below each image, a two-line verse. Numbered top right: No. 29.
