Venus and Mars

Venus sits with a globe on her lap. Behind her stands Mars, dressed in armor, who places his left hand on her chest. From the left Amor, his quiver on his shoulder, Ceres and Bacchus approach Venus. Bacchus holds a full basket above his head. This is an image of the theme 'Sine Cerere et Baccho friget Venus'. Without food and wine Venus is cold. Presumably the Marquis del Vasto, Alfonso d'Avalos and his wife are portrayed here as Mars and Venus.
