About this work

Tableau vivant. Henry IV, dressed as Hercules, forges the globe of the split French Empire back into unity together with Mars and Minerva. On the left the goddesses of fertility look on. On the right Strength takes the hand of Peace. Scene used in the water theatre on the Rokin. Numbered in the lower right: 12. Plate 12 of the illustrations accompanying the description of the festivities surrounding the visit of Maria de' Medici to Amsterdam from 31 August to 5 September 1638.
