About this work
Tableau vivant with the lamentation of France's misfortune by the French maiden, portrayed as Maria de' Medici, on the left. The globe of the French Empire is split and set on fire by Discord and Envy. Peace, with olive branch, and Justice are crushed on the right. Venus raises her hands to heaven. Scene used in the water theatre on the Rokin. Numbered in the lower right: 9. Plate 9 of the illustrations accompanying the description of the festivities surrounding the visit of Maria de' Medici to Amsterdam from 31 August to 5 September 1638.
