About this work
Monument in memory of politician and lawyer Pieter Paulus. In the middle of a gallery with niches and columns stands a large column with his portrait. Various symbols refer to the Batavian Republic, such as a flag and bundle of arrows. On the monument stand images of the four cardinal virtues. Women mourn and putti honor this national hero. The four lines of text by A.J. Verbeek below the representation praise his deeds.
