About this work

King Solomon sits on his throne and passes his judgment. Before the throne the two women who both claim motherhood of the living child. On the ground lies the dead child. Solomon gives the order to divide the living baby in two to determine who is the mother of the child. A man draws his sword and grabs the child by the ankle. The real mother begs to let the child live. Below the image the title in Latin, four four-line verses in Dutch and a reference to the Bible text in 1 Kings 3:16.
