About this work
Esther kneels before King Ahasuerus. The king points his scepter at her as a sign of affection. Esther invites the king and Haman to the banquet she has prepared. On the right background, the story continues: the king has the royal chronicles read to him in the evening, revealing that Mordecai foiled an assassination attempt on his life. The king asks Haman, who stands by the bed, how one who saved the king's life should be honored. In the background, Mordecai is paraded on the king's horse and in the king's robes, with Haman leading him. Below the image, a Latin reference to the biblical text in Esther 5-6.
